Sorry for the basic questions but what steps did you take to get the GPS working?  Additionally, what is the third icon on the HTC home screen do...I click on it and nothing happens?

The 1st link is just the ROM which includes windows mobile 6.1, EVDO-A & GPS support.  It does not include the GPS program though.  If you go to the 2nd link, 3rd post down someone linked the sprint navigation cab which will enable sprint navigation on your phone.

The icon on your phone that does nothing is the Navigation icon.  once you install tha cab file it will work like a charm.

Ok - I used a link from another thread, but I didn't have two links to download.  Did I miss something?  I'm getting the Telenav and don't need my receiver anymore (cool).  The messaging works with the new format.  And I have the Opera mobile.  Why the two here?

The 2nd link is the Sprint (telenav) cab file

I got the sprint nav with that one link/download for "geeks".  I had telnav on separate service before, decided to change it to mapquest due to price, saw it was on my phone after the download, clicked it and it came right up.  I'd gotten the service before (didn't work then) so I already had a log in.  Works just like it did before.
