According to Sprint's press release, the upcoming update WILL include the Windows 6.1 update for the Touch as well as several other phones... I'm proud of Sprint for this one...

6.1 is not that much different. The best part is threaded text messaging.
Yes pie will zoom but it still formats the page horribly. Opera, netfront, skyfire, or picsel are ALL better than pie. Opera seems to be the most popular.

Does anyone have this update yet? I've seen it "available" on Microsoft's site, but no place to download it.

I know that i have been waiting for the long awaited 6.1 fix/upgrade. I am beyond tired of the quirkiness of this phone. Dial one number only to have the phone actually dial another...Going to sleep and missing calls...locking up...no SMS...no wireless.
I was told during numerious visits to the Sprint Store that June 20th was the date. I had not seen anything about it and went to the store today. The very helpful technician called HTC to find out that they will not actually be releasing the update until sometime MID summer.
This is pathetic...selling a product that does not work correctly!
How do others feel about this?

I heard of the quirks but haven't had those problems. Dial one number to and get another, missed calls? About the most I've had to do is do a soft reset every now and then. But , I've done that with every pocket pc I've ever had.
I got my answer on the update - to keep it simple, we're waiting on Sprint. HTC and Windows have done their part.

I was real skeptical to try a different rom because I didn't have a clue what to do and I didn't want to screw my phone up, but over the weekend I installed the rom and despite the long directions it was very easy. I now have wm6.1, gps, and evdo. Phone is working great. Go to the ppcgeeks forum and they have easy step by step directions. Now i don't really care if they ever come out with the update that was supposed to be out in Q1 that will probably be out in Q1 2009.

I would print directions and read then go back through the steps. All you need to do is the first 11 steps. At least that is all that I did and I know my gps works on google maps and live search, and wm6.1 is working.

Thanks, perfect! Thank you! I updated the ROM expecting Sprint navigation to be on there. How is using GPS w/google maps? Does it give you turn by turn directions?
